Riverhead, N.Y. - The Adelphi University golf team is in fourth place after day one of the 16-team Dowling College Peter King Memorial Tournament, held at Long Island National Golf Club in Riverhead, New York. Junior Brant Kummerfeld, who shot a 76, is tied for tenth place. Freshman Matt Demeo (78) and senior Jantzen Vargas (78) are in a tie for 16th place.

Pace (300) has the day one lead, seven strokes ahead of second-place Dowling (307). Post (308), Adelphi (313) and American International (315), Goldey-Beacom (315) and Wilmington (315) round out the top-five.

Justin Fonseca of Dowling has the lead among individuals with an even par round of 72. Garrett Beyor (73) of American International is in second place in the 82-player field.

"The team showed a lot of grit today," said head coach Scott Allen. "The conditions were tough and we were not on top of our game, but we persevered. There's a lot to be said for that."

Junior Oliver Hudesman (81) and senior Joe Ostrowski (88) rounded out the scoring for the Panthers.

Adelphi will return to action on Monday, April 7, in round two of the Dowling College Peter King Memorial Tournament at Long Island National Golf Club in Riverhead, New York.
