Dec. 7, 2004 Garden City, N.Y. - Seniors James Samuels (Uniondale, N.Y.) and Josephine Coiro (West Babylon, N.Y.) have been named Adelphi's Athletes of The Week for the week of December 7, 2004. Samuels helped the Panthers to a perfect 2-0 mark last week. Adelphi collected wins over Dowling and rival C.W. Post. Samuels averaged 18 points and five rebounds, including a break-out performance against Post. Samuels scored a game-high 31 points (13-21) and added 6 rebounds, helping Adelphi remain unbeaten in the conference (3-0) and push their win streak to four games. Adelphi returns to action on Wednesday, December 8th when they travel to West Haven, Connecticut to take on conference foe New Haven at 7:00 pm. Coiro totaled three goals over the course of two games in the NCAA Division II Final Four. Coiro opened the scoring in Adelphi's 2-1 semi-final win over Carson-Newman and her two goals against Metro State in the Championship game almost brought home the programs first NCAA title. For her efforts Coiro was named to the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer All-Tournament team. Adelphi finished the season 20-4-1 overall, the team's best finish in program history. |
